For so many of us, changing careers is a big dream, but how many actually get around to making it happen? Wanting to change careers can happen at any time .

It could be close to the  beginning of your working life, when you feel you’ve made the wrong choice, and perhaps you can see something that you ‘d much rather be doing. Wanting to change career is pretty common in midlife too, when priorities change and you want to focus on family or other interests.

And these days, retirement isn’t the given it used to be. Many older folk are finding they have to keep on working if they are going to survive financially. And most of them won’t want to stay in the job they are in –  they want some flexibility to enjoy at least some of the plans they had for retirement. And of course, many employers aren’t too happy at the thought of keeping them on the payroll.

 So why is it that so many of us want change and yet do nothing about it? 

Usually, behind all of the many reasons we can come up with is Fear. But why are we so afraid of change? 

 In fact, our fears are greater than our desire to change. Identifying the fears could be the first step towards finally taking the plunge.
