Are you stuck in a job you hate? And you feel there is no way out? I know how you feel, believe me, I’ve been there too! The trouble is, there is a recession just round the corner and you, like all of us, have bills to pay. So you can’t possibly think about moving. But you feel depressed and that there must be more to life than this - so what can you do to improve the situation?

I am going to share a few steps you can take, which should help you to improve things in the short term. First of all, take a close look at your present job and see if there is anything you can do it make it a little more tolerable. You’ll have to stay there till you find something new, so if you can make a few changes, you’ll feel a lot better and that will give you the impetus to get out there and look for something new.

So, why not start by asking: what is it you hate so much about this job. Is it that you have to complete repetitive tasks, which are driving you to distraction? Are there ways in which you could perform these tasks more quickly or efficiently, so that you finish them faster and can move to something more enjoyable?

Most companies I’ve worked for waste resources and have quite a few inefficient practices. I think this is pretty universal and soo it shouldn’t be difficult to find some strategies which will help save your boss some money. And in the present economic climate, which employers won’t be happy to find people on the payroll who can come up with ideas which will help them save time or money?

Is it possible for you to learn something new? If you are bored out of your mind picking up a new skill should liven things up a bit. And it will also be something to add to your CV or resume. You can learn formally, by finding someone to teach you you can just watch those around you and learn informally.
Or you could decide to focus on an existing skill you already use and work to get a great deal better at it.

So, as an example, if you type a lot, work towards improving you speed or if you use two fingers, learn to touch type. Or decide to learn some more functions of a computer programme you use. Most people just use the functions they need, but you could expand your knowledge and become an expert in Word or Excel or something else.

Find out more about the company or the industry in general. Choose an area of the you aren’t too familiar with and find out more. Understanding the bigger picture can help you to see the significance of your own job , which can make it a bit more meaningful.

Little changse can make a big difference; are more likely to notice you and look on you more favourably when it comes to promotion or additional responsibilities. And even if they don’t improve your conditions, you’ll be building your skills and experience and that is going to make you the type of person other employers want to hire. You can feel good about your new achievements and you’ll be able highlight them on your résumé, which in turn is going to help you get a better job.

So don’t despair if you feel you are in a rut. There are things you can do to get out of it. I’ll be writing some more about getting a job during the recession .

Are you thinking of changing career? There are plenty of good reasons to do it now, here are three of them:

Reason One

Your company is cutting back, redundancies are being made and you suspect that your job may be one of them. With the current economic downturn, many employers, simply have no choice. So chances are, many of you are really worried about your current job and your future job prospects. If you think you could be laid off, it’s time to start thinking about a career change now. so, brush up your interview skills and get your CV or résumé updated right away.

Take a long hard look at the industry you work in. Is it going to be badly hit by the recession? Do you think you can expect long term job security? Of course, no job is ever totally safe, but if yours is likely to be cut, it’s probably going to be hard to find similar work elsewhere.
And recessions do recur every ten years or so. So the coming recession won’t be the last! This is why it is wise to at least consider moving to a career, or a similar career but based in a different industry, that is, one which is less likely to go under in a tough economic climate.

Reason Two

You don’t have enough – or the right – skills to survive a recession. Even if you are an expert in your own field, it may be that your expertise is not in high demand Of course, certain specialists will always be needed, whatever is going on in the economy, but if you aren’t in the right niche or sector, you may need to think about developing some new skills.

Think about the type of skill which will always be in demand. This doesn’t need to be highly technical, although technology is not going away. You could work on soft skills, like communication skills and perhaps find a way of combining them with something like computing to give you more flexibility in the job market.

Reason Three

You hate your job. If you are stuck in a rut, in a job you dislike intensely, don’t think you have to stay there just because the economy is in trouble. It’s easy to think you won’t find anything new and just sit tight, but if you are unhappy, you really should think about making a move. You don’t need to leave your job before finding something new. And you might decide to start a part time training course for a new career. This will give your present job more meaning – it is supporting you as you move towards your new career.

Many people decide to make a career change at forty or some other significant time in their lives. If this applies to you, don’t let the economy hold you back.

If you need help changing career, find out what you really want to do. Or discover how to write a CV and cover letter. If you need help actually finding a job and want to gain interview skills, take a look at Ace that Interview.

If you are looking for an affiliate money making program, Clickbank is the best place to start. You will find a huge variety of affiliate products in a wide range of niches. So it won’t be difficult to find one which is of interest to you.

You need to make sure that other people are also interested in this particular niche, otherwise they are unlikely to buy anything. You can do this by searching for relevant keywords with google’s free keyword tool. This will also tell you how much money is being spent on advertising, which is a good clue to the amount of money being spent on products.

Affiliate marketing is a relatively easy area in which to get started, but you will need a fair bit of knowledge to make some money. You can listen to our free audio guide to an internet affiliate business and read the accompanying reports, but if you really want to make progress, I strongly recommend that you invest in Wealthy Affiliate University, which provides an 8 week action plan, plus a load of tools, tutorials, a forum, a free blueprint for a niche which is extremely popular, with products in high demand, and much more. You can read my review here Wealthy Affiliate Review.

Is it possible to recession proof your career? With so many negative stories about the credit crunch in the news, is it inevitable that we will all be affected? If we lose our jobs - a common effect of recession - will we be able to get another one?

There are a few steps you can take to improve your chances of getting a new and even better job - or even keeping the one you’ve got.

To be sure you are in the running for the few remaining jobs out there, you have to have a high quality resume or CV which is carefully targeted for the job you want. It has to show the employer that you are the best person for the job and so it has to address the specific job in question. This is even more important when there is a recession or downturn in the economy. Jobs are scarce and those seeking them are many. You have to make sure you stand out if you are to find a job in a recession.

To do this, you must show that you understand what the job is, the skills it requires and the direction in which the industry is moving. Then you need to be able to show that you will be an asset to the company because of your skills, knowledge and insight.

Tough job for a resume or CV! But that’s what you need to achieve if you are to get to the next stage, that is, the interview.

Find out exactly how to write a great resume and recession proof your career.

If you are just starting college, you’ll need to know how to write an academic essay.

Essay styles vary from college to college and so the first step is to find out what is expected by your tutor.Try to have a look at some samples - the study support centre at your university should be able to help you. Or you can find second year students in your subject and get some tips from them. Just don’t copy their work if they allow you to have a look at it. You don’t want to be kicked out for plagiarism.

Your tutor may recommend books - there are many essay writing guides out there.

If you struggle with reading large amounts of information, consider investing in a speed-reading course. I’ve found that this speed-reading course does work, and you can actually double your reading speed quickly - you do need to practise a bit to embed the changes into your life. I’ve put some tips to help you speed up your reading here.

When you are faced with writing a college assignment, you can feel overwhelmed by the number of books on your reading list. I’ve also posted some tips to help you make your reading more efficient here.

Is it possible to make business online work for you? With the threat of a recession coming, many people are desperate for a new source of income, but is it really possible to m a k e money online?

It is possible to work online and make money, but it takes hard work, dedication and focus.

Most students need a source of additional income. So what are the possibilities? First of all, you need to start out early if you want a job on campus or close by, as the competition for student jobs will be huge.

You need to think about the implications of working – how much money you need and how much will a student job pay you? How many hours will you need to work each week and how will that affect your studies?

Depending on the subjects you will be studying at college and the subjects you were best at in school, you could consider tutoring or coaching high school students or others who are studying the subjects at a lower level than you are.

Tutoring pays more than a job in a bar or fast food restaurant and has the advantage of being more flexible. So you can arrange sessions to fit your schedule and cut back if you take on too much, or advertise for more students if you need extra cash.

Coaching for kids coming up to exams is always in demand and can be pretty lucrative. Just make sure you are well prepared for your own exams first!

If you are heading off to college in the next few months, you’ll need to think about getting into a study routine. This might not be too difficult if you have just left school and are used to hitting the books, but there is one major difference – you’ll be left pretty much to your own devices at college. You’ll have submission dates for your assignments, but it’ll be up to you to get them in on time. No homework to hand in on a weekly basis to make sure you are keeping up.

And if you are going back to college as an adult, with a long break since school days, you may feel a little anxious about getting into your stride.

The first thing to do is to have a look at your timetable and at the assignments you have to complete and the dates they have to be in by. Then put together a plan. You can study on your own and also with a group of other students, if that works well for you.

It’s important to make sure you know exactly what is required for the assignment. So if you have any questions or are unsure about anything, ask your tutor right away.

You can also attend workshops on study skills to help you understand how to structure your work and organize your study routine. Most colleges have their own preferred layout for essays, method of referencing and so on.

Try to get to know some second year students – they will be able to point you in the right direction.

The new academic year is always a busy time as young people and their parents look for financial aid for students. If you are a new student about to start a full-time degree, you will probably already have applied for student grants and loans.

But what else can you do to alleviate student poverty?

The first step is to learn how to budget, perhaps not the most exciting thing on the agenda when you are about to start a whole new life at college. But if you take control of your finances early in the year, you could save yourself a lot of grief further down the track. Get some tips on budgeting for students.

Part-time student jobs are much in demand and so it’s a good idea to search for a job as early as possible, preferably before your course begins.

Accommodation is one of the main student expenses and again you should look early. A good option is shared student accommodation a little way from the campus, where rents tend to be lower and there is a large student population.
