It’s surprising what a bit of snow can do to the economy, especially here in the UK, where we aren’t prepared for it!
Thousands of schools are closed, meaning that many students may not be able to sit their exams.
But kids being at home also means parents can’t get to work.
And of course, many people can’t get to work because of the state of the roads.
And people aren’t shopping, except for essentials. It’s been good for local shops, but not so good for the big supermarkets and even worse for the department stores. Some small businesses are also losing out as deliveries can’t be made.
As with most factors which are outside our control, the bad weather has very positive results for some people and spells disaster for others. So can you weather-proof your career?
One solution for many office workers is to work from home – if they have the technology. since most people have computers these days, this is a definite possibility for many.
The effects are likely to be temporary and despite claims that the snow is costing the economy millions of pounds, most people and most companies will bounce back.
But wouldn’t it be nice not to have to rely on the weather to get paid?
Job security is hard to find because of the economic climate, never mind the weather and so for more and more people, developing a portfolio career – that is one which gives you several streams of income – is becoming an enticing possibility.

After more technical difficulties – I’m finally getting on with creating the CV and resume writing software.
I mentioned more nightmares and here they come! I decided to upgrade this blog to the latest version of WordPress.
Last time I attempted that, I got into a terrible mess and had to get help. This time I managed to do it alone and was feeling extremely pleased with myself. But the reason for updating was to use new plugins and they simply wouldn’t work. That seemed to be related to the theme and so I updated that.
The result? My blog vanished from the face of the internet! I was left with a blank page. Read More »

I haven’t posted for a while due to a series of technological nightmares!
First of all, getting new anti-virus software installed on my computer was fun (at first) Having the software installed remotely was like an electronic game of pin the tail on the donkey. Unfortunately they missed the donkey’s rear end and got its jugular vein. Read More »

01Portfolio Careers for Multiple Income Streams
Posted By: admin on September 1, 2009 at 6:50 amI wrote a post about portfolio careers a couple of weeks ago and now I have finally finished a report on the subject. I’ve included a lot of information about setting up your own home based business and also links to articles on careers.
There are plenty of ideas for businesses, both on line and offline and links to useful resources which you might like to invest in once you have decided which direction is right for your portfolio. It does take a bit of time and organization, but it will be worth it in the end.
You can download the report free (no sign up required).
To read the report online go to: Portfolio Career
If you would like to download the report, you can do so here: Download Portfolio Career
Look for Direct Download on the right and click on the Adobe Acrobat link.
hope you enjoy it.

Today is a big day for young people in the UK – exam results day. A levels or advanced levels, are the exams young people take to gain a university place and today is the day they find out if they have got their place of choice.
Many who don’t get the grades they needed will find an alternative place through the university clearing system. And quite a few applicants will find new places by the end of today or tomorrow.
But there has been a 10% increase in university applications this year and this means fewer places available through clearing. Read More »

16Need to Make Extra Money? Start an Internet Business
Posted By: admin on August 16, 2009 at 5:29 amIt’s been a while since I last posted, but I have been working hard in the background. . . there are some new developments coming soon. More on that tomorrow.
But today I’m going to talk a bit about free seminars, since I mentioned the Millionaire Mind Intensive in my last post.
Free seminars can and usually are, really good. You’ll get loads of good information, meet lots of new people and come away really motivated.
However, there is a big but, a very big BUT.
Part of the information you will be given is information about courses and seminars, which aren’t free. In fact, although they are usually special offers – only available during this particular seminar – they are very expensive. And if there are a lot of speakers, each will have his or her own offer – something you can’t live without, can’t get anywhere else and must buy now.
This can be very confusing and you can end up spending a lot of money on something which could be unsuitable for someone with your level of knowledge or your particular aspirations.
I would recommend that you leave your credit card at home! Most of the speakers will be back at the next big seminar and you can go off and research their programmes in the meantime to see if they are what you want.
One of the suggestions on the Millionaire Mindset Intensive was to start an internet business. There have also been a number of free seminars here (London) recently on that specific topic. I didn’t go, because I didn’t want to come away feeling I was missing out.
If you want to start an internet business, here is a much better and much more affordable option, designed for beginners. In fact, you can “try before you buy” by taking a look at this free 26 part video course, which leads you through all the steps you must take to get started online:
http://www.businessblueprint101.com/FreeVideoCourse
And in case you are wondering, if you do decide to become a member, it’s only $27 a month and that includes hosting, a squeeze page, a product to give away and another one you can sell and keep all the cash.

Come back tomorrow for more about those new developments.
If you buy through the links on this page, I will receive a commission.
