I promised I’d update you on some new developments today and there are two main areas I want to talk about. One is a slight change in direction and the other is an update on products.

The change in direction isn’t really a change – I’m just putting more emphasis on it now, because of the state of the economy. My main focus is career change and for me, that has always been about job satisfaction. But it has always been clear to me that unless you have a very strong vocation, you are unlikely to get all that you want from a job in one place, that is in one job or career.

And if you are like me, allergic to jobs, it’s even more difficult – you have to try and incorporate all of those things you want into your home business or businesses.

This idea isn’t new – Charles Handy called it a portfolio career, but I’ve noticed that my articles with that term in the title don’t attract many readers. I think it’s probably because it’s an unfamiliar term and sounds as if it has something to do with art or stocks and shares.

So I’m looking for a new term – I’m considering multi-stream career, which certainly sounds sexier and will probably be more easily understood, because most people are familiar with the term multiple streams of income.

Anyway, it makes sense to have more than one stream of income thes days. And that could mean setting up a part-time business venture while you still have a full-time job. It could also mean having a part-time business, with more than one income strean and two part-time jobs, for example a working mornings in an office, teaching an evening class in a local college a couple of nights a week.

I’m incorporating this idea into my current products, by providing you with all the information you need to set up a part-time income stream as a Résumé or CV Writer. After all , if you take the trouble to learn how to write your own Résumé , if you live in the US or CV if you are in the UK, why not make a bit of extra cash with your knowledge?

There are 2 versions: one if you just want to create a great CV or Résumé: http://www.ukjobapplicationforms.com

And one for the entire jobsearch process, including the Résumé package

http://www.jobseekerssuccesskit.com

.

(Both packages include the information you need to write Résumés for others)

More about a new product update tomorrow (anyone who buys now will get an automatic update – free. The same applies to existing customers)

The best jobs will depend very much on your perspective, but for the purposes of this article, we’ll have a look at an overview of the job market as a starting point. However, in later articles, we’ll approach the question from different angles.

Overall , the top jobs involve education to degree level, that is 3 or 4 years of college and many of them require a high level of technical knowledge and skill – hardly surprising with the speed at which technology is involving. In fact, around 50% of the top jobs involve computing.

It’s important for everyone to learn the basics. So, whatever your area of interest, you should be able to use wordprocessing packages, email and the internet at the very least. If you want to specialise in computing, read up on the different jobs available and take some basic classes to find

out what you enjoy and where your aptitude

lies.

Most children will be comfortable with many aspects of technology, having grown up with computers both in school and at home. So if you are lagging behind – get your kids to teach you the basics. And if you don’t have kids, high school or college students will probably give you reasonable tuition rates.

Jobs within health care and service industries are also high on the list. Within these careers and industrial sectors are the jobs with the best rates of pay and perhaps more importantly in a world with few jobs for life, ones with most growth and significant new openings.

So if you’re a computer whiz and want to earn plenty, systems analyst or computer engineer, programmer or support specialist would be good career moves. Jobs in computing extend to almost every sector and so if you have an interest in health, education or any other area, you should be able to use your computer skills in a field which attracts you.

Top jobs in health care include doctor, nurse, physician’s assistant in the US, social workers, dentists and dental assistants.

With everyone requiring more and more education and training, education is another field which is experiencing growth, particular at secondary and university level and in special needs education.

Technology is another trend which keeps on growing, with computer-related jobs also expected to experience massive growth, but you can still cash in on this without entering a high-tech career. The increased application of technology in daily life also creates more jobs in sales and if you enjoy teaching, there is plenty of scope for educating people in how to use the latest inventions. These jobs do require a certain amount of technical knowledge, but their main focus is on other skills and you can specialize in one small area. Of course, technology moves incredibly quickly and you’ll have to keep up. So you’ll have to enjoy ongoing learning!

And for those of you who truly hate technology, how about helping people deal with the increased stress that technology causes? This seems to be more topical than the time-saving benefits which were talked about so much in the past!

The rapid growth of the internet has led to many new opportunities, not only for young computer geeks, but also for people of all ages who want to make a living from home. Many internet-related skills are therefore in demand, from teaching beginners how to surf and send email, to programming and designing websites. Depending on age (despite laws against age discrimination, computer-related jobs tend to go to younger workers) and ability, jobs in these areas can be in full-time employment, on short-term contract or on a freelance basis. Anyone with internet skills can use them to build their own online business or help other people build theirs.

And if you don’t like the internet, how about organizing internet-free activities for families? With kids spending so much time in front of computer screens, communication within the family is an area in need of encouragement.

If you are at the beginning of your career or intending to change career, you might find it useful to know which sectors are growing fastest at the moment.

Naturally, this is not the only factor you should be taking into account when you decide on your career path, but the areas predicted to experience the most growth in the next 10-20 years are certainly worth considering.

These careers are likely to offer more security than some others, but that in itself isn’t a good enough reason to choose them. However, looking at areas of growth and then expanding your outlook to take in the bigger picture will help you to find a career you do enjoy and which isn’t likely to disappear overnight.

If you keep up to date with trends and apply some creative thinking, you can find a job which is profiting from economic growth but also aligns with your own preferences and values. Here’s an example of how this might work: the population in most countries in the developed world is ageing. As a result of this, the healthcare industry is expanding, with more job opportunities opening up at many different levels.

How can you do use this information to your advantage if you have no interest in working in the healthcare field?

The key is to focus on the big picture and not just healthcare itself. In this case, the big picture is an increase in over 60s in your local community (assuming you live in one of the countries affected). A need for more healthcare facilities is part of the trend and if you look at this more closely, you’ll realize these facilities will require a whole range of professionals, including architects, builders, plumbers, secretaries and landscape gardeners. Prevention of illness associated with old age is also prevalent and this has opened up many new career opportunities in fields such as nutrition, complementary medicine, as well as physical and mental fitness.

With so much talk of overburdened health systems, it’s easy to forget that not everyone over 60 needs extra care. In fact, many people live till their 80s and 90s in the best of health. And they too have needs which perhaps didn’t apply to earlier generations, for example a much longer retirement to fill with either leisure activities or in a good many cases, a continued need to earn an income.

Look at the situation even more carefully, and you will see that a predominantly older population will change life dramatically for younger generations as well. What sort of jobs might this result in? Perhaps jobs we couldn’t even dream up now. This might sound a little like science fiction, but think about it, 50 years ago lots of jobs which are now very common just didn’t exist.
